Aug 22, 2023Aug 22, 2023

Zach McAllister's baseball career has come full circle.

The 35-year-old Chillicothe native signed a minor league deal with the New York Yankees on Saturday, returning to the team that drafted him nearly two decades ago.

McAllister became a free agent Wednesday when the Arizona Diamondbacks granted his release. Three days later, he signed with the Yankees, the team that selected him in the third round of the 2006 MLB amateur draft out of Illinois Valley Central.

Z-Mac has reported to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, returning to the Pennsylvania club after last pitching there on Aug. 17, 2010. Three days after that initial outing, McAllister was traded to Cleveland where he spent the next eight years highlighted by two appearances in the 2016 World Series against the Chicago Cubs. He also made three MLB appearances with the Detroit Tigers in 2018.

McAllister has also spent time in the minor league organizations for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.

This season, McAllister has made 37 appearances with Arizona's Triple-A affiliate in Reno. The right-hander has pitched 38 1/3 innings with 54 strikeouts and a 4.93 ERA. He has a 1-2 record with three saves.
